People in Lamorinda face a variety of potential natural disasters: fires, flooding, earthquakes. When a serious disaster occurs there are a few hundred volunteers who will help the community survive and recover. These people are the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and depending on the gravity of the disaster they may be the only first responders you will see for days, even weeks.
Our next class (the last class for 2008) starts October 1st.

Conduct fire drills and practice evacuating your home twice a year. Drive your planned evacuation route and plot alternate routes on a map in case main roads are impassible or gridlocked. Practice earthquake and tornado drills at home, school and work. Commit a weekend to update phone numbers, disaster supplies and review your plan with everyone.
