What would happen if there was a a three day notice for earthquakes? Wouldn't the impact be a lot less?
If the aftermath of Hurricane IKE is something to go by, the answer is: "There would be a difference, but all residents of the Bay Area would still be in serious trouble". "Houston . . . remains partly powered but severely crippled," noted Harvey Howell, a national response team member with Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) and president of the San Antonio Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster. "Response will extend for weeks." |

4.0 Earthquake Shakes Lamorinda |

A light earthquake occurred at 9:00:15 PM (PDT) on Friday, September 5, 2008. The magnitude 4.0 event occurred 3 km (2 miles) ENE of Alamo, CA.
People in Lamorinda face a variety of potential natural disasters: fires, flooding, earthquakes. When a serious disaster occurs there are a few hundred volunteers who will help the community survive and recover. These people are the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and depending on the gravity of the disaster they may be the only first responders you will see for days, even weeks. Our next class (the last class for 2008) starts October 1st.
