Schedule:

January 5:     Introduction, Unit 1 Preparedness & Unit 8 Terrorism
January 7:     Unit 2: Fire Safety & Unit 9 Radio Communications
January 12:     Unit 3: Disaster Medical Operations
January 14:     Unit 4: Disaster Medical Operations (continued)
January 19:     Unit 5: Light Search and Rescue
January 21:     Unit 6 CERT Organization, Unit 10 Pets in Disasters and Unit 7 Disaster Psychology
January 28:     Drill and graduation

During the first session we will distribute printed versions of the CERT training manuals.
Participants who want to be an official disaster first responder (Disaster Service Worker) for the State of California will have the opportunity to fill out a registration form.
Upon completion of the training they will be sworn in.

Online versions of the training manual can be download (in Acrobat pdf format) from the Lamorinda CERT web site at http://tinyurl.com/ykez4yg
I strongly suggest that you read Unit 1: Disaster Preparedness and Unit 8: Terrorism. Every session will be presented using Powerpoint slides.
The manual covers more ground and provides information that will greatly enhance your ability to function in a disaster.

If you are interested in previewing the Powerpoint presentations: they can also be found on the Lamorinda CERT web site at  http://tinyurl.com/yh5xgto

* For those who are not familiar with the Saint Mary's Campus: a map of the campus can be found on the SMC web site at: http://tinyurl.com/czksud

Disaster Preparedness Tip: When the Lights Go Out

Short-term power outages, such as those caused by storms, are inconveniences but with good planning, you and those you care about will get through it just fine.

Top Safety Tips for a Blackout
1. Only use a flashlight for emergency lighting. Never use candles!
2. Turn off electrical equipment you were using when the power went out.
3. Avoid opening the refrigerator and freezer.
4. Do not run a generator inside a home or garage.
5. If you use a generator, connect the equipment you want to power directly to the outlets on the generator. Do not connect a generator to a home's electrical system.
6. Listen to local radio and television for updated information.
